While the total value of 2021’s debt deals fell as governments pulled back from the early stages of the pandemic, corporate markets flourished. There were 1,171 corporate debt and equity deals in 2021, up 32.2 per cent from a year earlier, with total deal value of $332.73 billion, which was up nearly 17 per cent.

RBC, BMO and Scotia Capital topped the chart with shares of 12.06 per cent, 8.95 per cent, and 8.74 per cent respectively.

Equities saw the biggest surge, with nearly $55 billion in deals involving common shares, trust units and convertible debt. The dollar figure and deal count — at 817 — were both up around 50 per cent from the prior year.

BMO led the pack in dollar figures, totalling $6.48 billion, with an 11.84 per share. Independent broker-dealer Canaccord Genuity Corp. topped the deal mandates chart, with 177, coming in second by dollar figure, at $5.32 billion, with a share of 9.71 per cent.
